MakeAHome.ca is a joint initiative between Regina Youth For Christ and the Ministry of Social Services. Our goal is to work with Churches in Regina to raise awareness and recruit people to foster, provide respite care, and support fostering families in Regina and the surrounding area.
What is fostering?
Fostering involves opening your home to a child for an unspecified amount of time. During the time the child is in your home you are responsible for attending to their daily needs including: caring, feeding, clothing, supporting at school, nurturing and guiding, ensuring they feel safe, managing behaviors, taking them to visits, appointments , extracurricular activities, and keeping a life book of their time and accomplishments with you.
What is respite care?
Respite care is for a specific amount of time and is with a particular child. Generally this is done when a foster parent needs to go away or is in need of a break. Some respite can be set up on a regular basis as a support for a foster parent (ie – one weekend a month). Other respite is used in emergency situations or during vacations when a foster parent isn’t able to take a child with them.
